I could have chosen any other country and wouldn’t have had to go through problems claiming my citizenship. People all over the world know me as an Indian artist. “The love, adulation and warmth that I got from India is the reason why I chose this country. So, the 46-year-old requested the Indian government to legalise his stay in the country on humanitarian grounds. His Pakistani passport issued on May 27, 2010, expired on May 26 this year, and his passport was not renewed by the Pakistan government. Sami’s visa was extended from time to time. Salman Khan has announced a collaboration with Adnan Sami for a song in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. “I’m very thankful to the Indian government for considering my plea. Salman Khan and Adnan Sami have earlier worked and created magic together in movies like ‘Salaam-E-Ishq’, ‘Jaan-E-Mann’, ‘Lucky No Time For Love’. He can now stay in the country for an indefinite period. I’m happy that we got that moment on camera,” he ends with a laugh.Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, whose appeal to legalise his stay in India got accepted recently, is thrilled.

And so, this honour is even more special. In 2016, Sami was granted Indian citizenship by the government. It has inspired and rejuvenated me with more enthusiasm.” When somebody praises you, it makes you want to do even better.
I would want to believe that there’s another life in front of me and I feel the responsibility to do and share more. Talking about it, he says, “It’s a beautiful blessing that I’ve been given the award at this age. While the 50-year-old is motivated to work harder now, he feels a sense of responsibility. I had a whole flashback of everything I’ve been through in my life as a person and artiste.
Sami describes the moment as “ethereal” and elaborates, “When I was sitting there and waiting for the ceremony to start, I was absorbing the environment.
